KILOMOGANNY BRIDGE CLUB: On last Wednesday 11th March, Kilmoganny Bridge Club
hosted Killamery Bridge Club. The Bridge was enjoyable and concluded with tea
and refreshments for all while the scores were being compiled. There were
prizes for all. The top seven pairs were: 1st: Catherine Burke &
Helen Lanigan (Killamery); 2nd Margaret O’Shea & Paul Tomsett
(Kilmoganny); 3rd Nellie Lahart & Myra Hickey (Kilmoganny); 4th
Ellen Delahunty & Pascal Grace (Kilmoganny); 5th Maria Comerford
& Therese Walsh (Kilmoganny); 6th Mary Lonergan & Josie
O’Gorman  ( Both Clubs); 7th
Rita Townsend & Stella Tennyson (Killamery). Bridge takes place on each
Wednesday at 8.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. Visitors are always
welcome.

KELLS HANDBALL: In the County 40 x 20 championship in Junior Doubles Dan
Breen/Brendan Hyland (Kells) were defeated by Padraig Cooney/Shane Dunne
(Clogh). In the Leinster semi-final of the Juvenile 40 x 20 Team events in the
U 12/13 and U 16/17 Kilkenny defeated Laois. Representing Kells on the U12/13
team was Padraig Lennon, on the U 14/15 Team was Dylan Crehan and on the U
16/17 team were Conor Condon and Jack Crehan. The Leinster Finals will be
played on Friday 20th March in St. Joseph’s, Wexford.  Good luck to all. In the Adult All Ireland
Semi-final in Intermediate Doubles Brendan Burke (Kells)/Ciaran Neary (Talbot’s
Inch) travelled to Beragh, Co. Tyrone and defeated Johnny Woods/Shane O’Neill
(Tyrone).  They now play Galway in the
final. In the Ladies Junior B Doubles Kirsty Maher (Kells)/Denise Love (Clogh)
are also through to the All-Ireland final. In the Juvenile 40 x 20 All Ireland
semi-finals in U 15 Singles Eoin Brennan (Kells) lost out to Antoin Fox
(Tyrone).


 


POC FÁDA COMPETITION: Dunamaggin Hurling
Club will hold its U 14 Féile Skills Competition in Dunamaggan on Sunday march
29th at 12.45 p.m. The competition is open to all players on the
2015 U 14 panel.


 


TABLE QUIZ: The parents’ association of Coláiste Brid,
Callan is holding a table quiz in the Golf Club, Callan on next Friday 20th
March at 8.00 p.m. All are welcome and a table of 4 costs €20.


 


ENTERPRIZE TOWN: The Bank of Ireland
has selected Callan and its surrounding hinterland including Dunamaggan, Kells,
Kilmoganny as an Enterprise Town Area. A meeting will be held in John Lock’s
GAA Club on this Thursday at 7.00 p.m. for all interested in the project.


 


KATHLEEN BROWNE, Caherleske, passed
away very peacefully in her home in the company of her loving family on the
last day of February. She is survived by her sons John, Kieran and Noel, her
daughters Patricia, Kathleen and Pamela, Grandchildren, great-grand-children,
in-laws and many relatives and friends. Her remains reposed at her home before
removal on Monday 2nd March to St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan
where they were received by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. before the celebration of
the mass of Christian Burial. Members of the family read the readings at mass
and the prayers of the faithful and also presented gifts and symbols at the
mass. She lived all her life in Caherleske. She was laid to rest in Kilmoganny
Cemetery. May she rest in peace.


 


JIMMY (BUILDER) WALSH, Poulboy, Kilmoganny
passes away very peacefully in Castlecomer District Hospital, after a short
illness, on Monday 9th March. He was the oldest citizen in
Dunamaggan parish as he celebrated his 99th birthday not long ago.
He spent many years in the Army and subsequent to that worked with local
farmers as well as been caretaker and grave digger in Kilmoganny Cemetery for
about 33 years. Until a few years ago The
Builder,
as he was known, still rode his bicycle. At the celebration of his
significant birthdays he would always sing a song. He will be sadly missed by
his many neighbors and friends. His remains reposed in St. Joseph’s Home,
Kilmoganny before removal to St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny on last Wednesday
for the mass of Christian burial where they were received by Rev. Nicholas
Flavin P.P. The readings at mass and the prayers of the Faithful were read by
neighbors as were the gifts presented by neighbors. He was laid to rest in
Kilmoganny Cemetery where he was caretaker and grave digger for over 30 years.
May he rest in peace.


 


PAT WALSH MEMORIAL COMMITTEE will hold its next
meeting on Tuesday 24th March in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan at
8.00 p.m.. Planning for the 2016 Parade and celebrations will be the main focus
of the discussion. All ideas are welcome.
