U14 Girls Gaelic Vs Muckalee
24 May 2015
Gutsy performance by U14s
The U14s played Muckalee in Muckalee in the 2nd round of the league/ championship on
Wednesday night (20th). Dunnamaggin's panel had been reduced to 15 due to a number of players
being sick.
Dunnamaggin started strongly with a point in the first couple of minutes. This was followed by 2
points in quick succession from Muckalee. A goal from a free put Dunnamaggin in front and the first
half of the eagerly contested encounter finished Dunnamaggin 1-1 Muckalee 0-2.
The second half opened with a point for Dunnamaggin, however Muckalee soon got the upper hand
and scored 3 goals and 1 point without reply to leave the Dunnamaggin girls 3-3 to 1-2 down with
less than 10 minutes of the 2nd half played.
The Dunnamaggin girls dug deep and didn’t allow their heads to drop following Muckalee’s
onslaught. Their resilience became evident and the girls showed their pride in the Dunnamaggin
jersey. A goal and 4 points were patiently clawed back in the next 10 minutes, while Muckalee were
confined to only 1 point in the same period. This left the score at 3-4 (Muckalee) to 2-6
(Dunnamaggin) going into the last quarter. The game was very close with both teams equally
matched and giving it their all. Muckalee went 2 points in front with 10 minutes to go. Dunnamaggin
were then dealt a major blow when a player had to go off injured and there was no sub to replace
her. For the final 10 minutes of the match Dunnamaggin had to play with 14 players against
Muckalee’s 15. This gave Muckalee the advantage and they scored a further 2 points leaving the
final score Muckalee 3-8 Dunnamaggin 2-6.
The final score line didn’t do justice to the girls in what was a very entertaining match. The
teamwork and ‘never give up attitude’ displayed was a pleasure to watch. Each and every girl gave it
their all making it a very exciting spectacle. The improvements displayed by each individual player
and the team as a whole demonstrated the progress that the team has made in a very short period
of time. Well done girls and keep it up!!!
