40TH ANNIVERSERY CELEBRATIONS: Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. celebrated the 40th anniversary of his ordination in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan last Saturday evening at 7.00 p.m. mass. The very large attendance included family members, fellow class mates from St. Senan’s primary school in Kilmacow, relatives and numerous parishioners. The vestments worn at the mass were those made by his late mother, Kitty, which were worn at his first mass in Kilmacow on the 9th June 1975. The presentation of gifts and symbols at mass reflected his involvement with a great variety of groups within the parish. A theme running through his homily was how the Holy Spirit works through the ordinary people and events of our lives. He mentioned a few events from his own experience which demonstrated this. The Church choir provided the music and singing and they were complemented by the St. Leonard’s School pupils, Thomas O’Callaghan who sank solo and Niamh O’Donovan who played the harp.
After the mass a reception was held in the St. Leonard’s School Hall where the Parents’ Association of the School organised the reception. The principals of the three schools in the parish, Tom Hickey, Josie Molloy and Jackie Delahunty as well as John Hickey Chairman, Dunamaggin GAA Club, Dr. Patrick Crowley and Liam Aylward all spoke briefly of his work in the parish and outside it. Ned Kirwan, Chairperson of the Parish Pastoral Council was MC for the evening. John Walsh, on behalf or organisations in the Parish and parishioners made a presentation of Kilkenny Crystal of Cross and Candle holders. The staff and Pupils of St. Leonard’s School presented a beautiful mirror with the engraving of the crests of the four counties, Carlow, Wexford, Waterford and Kilkenny from which his grandparents originated. Nicholas Flavin thanked all for their great community spirit and support during his past 14 years in Dunamaggan. He also thanked those who organised the celebration.
The pupils of St. Leonard’s School under the direction of Mrs O’Dwyer provided music, singing and dance entertainment. There was also a display of photos etc recording some of his past work in St. Patrick’s College Maynooth, in St. Kieran’s College, Kilkenny as teacher and Principal, in Ringsend, Dublin while studying in Trinity College and in Rathdowney prior to his appoi9ntment to Dunamaggan.

and based on some of the displays there may be some Oscars returning to Dunnamaggin
in the near future!!! The clip will be shown on Winning Streak in June or July.
