ST LEONARD’S SCHOOL
DUNAMAGGAN
held the finals of its internal school
leagues in brilliant sunshine on Sunday 14th last. Numerous other
activities were organised by the Parents’ Council for the afternoon. In the
Junior Final Sean Rossiter’s team of Shay Delaney, Caitlin Fallon, Jake Butler,
Ina McDonald, Dan McEneaney and Emma Lahart were victorious over Jamie Tallon’s
team of Jack McCormack, Eileen Lahart, Stephen Walsh, Brian Hickey, Orla Walsh
and Martha Nesbitt on a scoreline of 1 – 1 to 1 – 0. The competition involved
only ground hurling. In the opening half Sean Rossiter scored a brilliant point
from about 30 meters from goal and later in the half he sent a well cut side
line ball straight to the back of the net. Thus his team lead by 1 – 1 to 0 – 0
at half time. They withstood great pressure from their opponents but with a few
minutes remaining Brian Hickey found the net to leave the minimum between the
teams. There was an exciting climax to the game but no further scores.

In the senior final Andy Hickey’s team of Siobhan Brennan, Joe
Fitzpatrick, Hannah Persse, Cathal Walsh, John Hayes and Ava Sheridan defeated
Shaun O’Keeffe’s team of Shannon Wall, Jimmy O’Neill, Paddy Cody, Noah Gilmore,
Clara Fox and Ellie Kinsella by 1 – 0 to 0 – 1. The standard of hurling was
very high and the goal keeping of Paddy Cody was of the highest standard. He
was beaten on one occasion by John Hayes. At the other end Andy Hickey was a
very competent net minder and the opposition just scored a single point from
captain Shaun O’Keeffe. For pictures of the league finals day CLICK HERE!!!
