DUNAMAGGIN U 12 HURLERS ARE RUNNERS-UP: The Dunamaggin U 12 hurlers put in some excellent performances over the last two weekends to become runners up in the Tommy Finn

11 a side Tournament last Saturday in Clonea-Power, Waterford. Dunnamaggin qualified for the

quarter finals on Saturday last after playing Buffers Alley of Wexford and a win over St. Mary’s of

Clonmel the previous Sunday. In a Tournament of exceptional high standard of hurling

Dunnamaggin faced host Clonea-Power in the Quarter finals. Dunnamaggin were much the better

team and dispatched the hosts to advance to the semi-finals where they met Carrick Swans. In a

game of 15 minutes aside the scores were level at half time at 2 points each. The second half saw

Carrick go 1 - 03 to 0 - 02 ahead but in a sign of true character and belief Dunnamaggin battled

back from behind to advance to the Final on a score line of 3 - 04 to 1 - 04. In the Final they met

the Buffers Alley side again, who had beat them in the group stages and who had stormed through

the  tournament so the Dunnamaggin mentors and players knew they would have to be at their

best. The Final which was 20 minutes a side was a very tense and tight affair with Denis Walsh

opening the scoring with a point. Alley bounced back with a good goal and then followed it up

with a fine point. The Dunnamaggin lads were not about to lie down and through some excellent

defending by Colin Fitzpatrick, Joe Fitzpatrick, Jimmy O’Neill and Ruairai Holden, Dunnamaggin

started to gain a foot hold in the game again. The ever running Denis Walsh then slotted over a

point to put a score between the side and it came when Denis Walsh floated a long ball in which

dropped into the net. It was a draw game at half time. It was Dunnamaggin who started the second

half well with good work from Aaron Moore, Mikey Thomas and all the Dunnamaggin lads but the

scores just would not come. Then against the run of play Buffers Alley broke up the field and

although net minder Sean Rossiter stopped the initial shot there was someone there to tap the ball

in. They then tagged on another point before Denis Walsh got a point back. This was however to

be Dunnamaggin’s last score and although the Dunnamaggin lads battled ferociously they lost out

to this very strong Wexford side 1 - 03 to 3 - 05. Well done to all involved in the five games

played. Panel: Jimmy O’Neill, Colin Fitzpatrick, Joe Fitzpatrick, Sean Rossiter, Aidan O’Neill,

Mikey Thomas, Aaron Moore, Oisin McDermott, Killian Tallon, Mark McEneaney, Ben Kinsella,

Ruairai Holden, Jack Walsh, Craig Drennan, Cathal Walsh, William Browne, Denis Walsh, Shaun

O’Keeffe. Mentors: PJ O’Keeffe, Denis Walsh, Richie O’Neill, John Walsh.
