U 14 HURLERS CHAMPIONSHIP CONCLUDES: Dunnamaggin U 14 hurlers beat Dicksboro in Thomastown on Tuesday 8th September last in their first round tie. It was the town side who opened the scoring with a point before Harry Walsh levelled after a good ball from Dan O’Neill. Nearly straight way Dylan Crehan put a long ball in from a free and the high ball eluded the keeper and found the back of the net. Dicksboro did, to their credit bounce back with two points as the half passed its midpoint as neither side really hitting into their stride. Harry Walsh extended the lead with two well taken frees before Dicksboro yet again put two points over. The Dunnamaggin mentors moved Harry Walsh to midfield as the half drew to a close and the moved brought with it renewed energy. Dicksboro did get a point but the Dunnamaggin backs lead by an assured Alex Moore at centre back were starting to put their stamp on the game. Harry Walsh pointed a free again before Dicksboro pointed to leave the minimum between the sides at half time. Dunamaggin 1 - 05, Dicksboro 0 - 07. Jimmy O’Neill came on for Joe Fitzpatrick at halftime. Dicksboro came out of the blocks best and pointed twice to put them in front. Andy Hickey then got in on the action with a great point from play to level things again. This point seemed to spur the Dunnamaggin lads on and they all seemed to up the work rate and chase every ball. With Dylan Crehan and Conor Brett getting the edge on their markers, things seemed to be going their way. Harry Walsh pointed two frees before came a critical score midway through the second half. A ball on the 21 yard line was collected by Conor Brett and as he turned he was met by three Boro lads but somehow he battled his way through them to leave him one on one on the goalie and he made no mistake. Dunnamaggin 2 - 08, Dicksboro 0 - 09. As the game headed into the final 10 minutes Dicksboro did get a goal of their own but this was quickly cancelled out in the move of the game. After good work from Dylan Wall in the goal he dispatched it to Alex Moore who worked it out to Dylan Crehan who lobbed it up to Andy Hickey who turned his man and dispatched diagonally to Jack O’Connell who made no mistake. The Dunnamaggin lads were working really hard as Dicksboro gave one last push. Great working back from the likes of Darragh Walsh, Dylan Crehan, Harry Walsh, Denis Walsh and Conor Brett was proving the difference between the teams. Then as the final whistle drew near a Dicksboro goal after a great initial stop from Dylan Wall did setup an anxious few minutes for the Dunnamaggin supporters. However time was nearly up and Harry Walsh finished up the scoring with another point from a free. A fine win from the Dunnamaggin lads. Dunnamaggin 3 - 09 Dicksboro 2 - 09. Panel:- Dylan Wall, Ger Coffey, Kieran Buckley, Dylan Carroll, Shaun O’Keeffe, Alex Moore, Darragh Walsh, Denis Walsh, Dylan Crehan, Dan O’Neill, Conor Brett,  Joe Fitzpatrick, Jack O’Connell, Harry Walsh, Andy Hickey, Conor Denny, Oisin McDermott, Jimmy O’Neill, Derek Carroll, Jack Walsh.

The Dunnamaggin U14’s took on current title holders O’Loughlin’s Gaels in the ¼ final of the Roinn A championship in Callan on Sunday 13th September. Dunnamaggin advanced to the quarter finals having beaten Dicksboro the previous Tuesday. Dunnamaggin started very brightly and when Dan O’Neill laid off the ball to Dylan Crehan and he got the game’s first point. Dunnamaggin followed this up with a well taken 65’ from Harry Walsh. These scores seemed to wake the O’Loughlin’s lads up and they started into a 10 minute scoring spree with a well taken goal, they then followed up this with two good points. The Dunnamaggin backs were under enormous pressure with the half back line of Darragh Walsh, Alex Moore and Dylan Crehan covering good ground. Dylan Wall in the Dunnamaggin goal was a busy man fielding many a ball and having to be constantly alert however O’Loughlin’s managed to again find the net and backed it up with a point. Then came a lifeline for Dunnamaggin when they won a 65’ and Harry Walsh (now at Centre forward) lobbed the ball in all the way to the back of the net. O’Loughlin’s were not going to allow this to alter their flow and although the Dunamaggin full back line of Ger Coffey, Kieran Buckley and Dylan Carroll were fighting hard they could not stop O’Loughlin’s rattling the net again just as half time arrived. Dunnamaggin 1 - 02 O’Loughlin’s Gaels 3 – 03. Derek Carroll came on for Joe Fitzpatrick at Half time. The first period of the second half was a very tight affair with no score until the 13th minute when O’Loughlin’s pointed twice to nudge them further ahead. Ger Coffey made way for Jimmy O’Neill as we hit the half-way point. The Dunnamaggin lads refused to let the head drop and huge work from Harry Walsh and the running and hassling of Conor Brett and Dylan Crehan kept the spirit going. Conor Denny came on for Jack O’Connell. The endeavour was rewarded when Dunnamaggin were awarded a penalty and Harry Walsh duly rattled the net. This was however to be Dunnamaggin’s final score and as the game drew to a close O’Loughlin’s added a further 1 - 02 and advanced to the semi-finals. A great effort from the Dunnamaggin lads and great experience of Roinn A hurling that will stand to them in the future. Panel :- Dylan Wall, Ger Coffey, Kieran Buckley, Dylan Carroll, Darragh Walsh, Alex Moore, Shaun O’Keeffe, Dylan Crehan, Denis Walsh, Dan O’Neill, Conor Brett, Andy Hickey, Joe Fitzpatrick, Harry Walsh, Jack O’Connell, Derek Carroll, Ger Donovan, Jack Walsh, Oisin McDermott, Jimmy O’Neill, Conor Denny.
