KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In the Adult Leinster 40 x 20 championships in the Junior B Singles Anthony Martin (Kells) defeated Gerry Ledwith (Westmeath); in the Junior Singles Dan Breen (Kells) gave a walkover, due to flu, to Keith Burke (Dublin); in the Junior B Singles Diarmuid Burke (Kells) received a walkover from David Doheny (Laois); in the Minor Singles Conor Murphy (Kells) lost out to Sean Muddiman (Kildare)
In the County Gael Linn Competitions representing Kells were Orla Buckley/Matthew O’Sullivan and Ava Murphy/Ryan Grace. Even though they did not make the final, they put on a great display of handball and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
In the Annual John Gaffney Memorial Tournament, held in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Mayo Patrick Funchion (Kells) defeated Vinny Moran (Mayo) but was then defeated in the 3rd game by USA number 3 seed Sean Lenning in an enthralling encounter; Peter Funchion (Kells) was defeated by C.J. Fitzpatrick (Limerick) in the tie break.
ANNUAL DUNNA DASH: This year's annual Dunna Dash family fun 5 km run/walk takes place in Dunnamaggin on Sunday February 28th 2016. Mark the date in your5 diary. More details to follow.
DUNAMAGGIN LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL CLUB will hold its AGM in St. Leonard's Hall, Dunamaggan on Friday 22nd January at 8.00 p.m. All members welcome.
DUNAMAGGIN JUVENILE GAA CLUB AGM was held in St. Leonard’s Hall Dunnamaggin on Friday 8th. Chairman John Fitzpatrick gave his report to the well-attended meeting, in which he outlined a very enjoyable year in which all grades competed at a high level and the development of skills was very evident. The highlight of the year was the Minors reaching the County Final, the Under 14 beating Dicksboro in the first round of the Roinn A Championship and Under 14 winning the Roinn A Football League. John complemented all coaches of the Club for their work in the Club being awarded the 3 Star Award by the County Board for coaching. John also thanked all who helped the club in any way over the year. Secretary Denis Walsh gave a very comprehensive report on all age levels of the Club. He outlined the need for player retention and the continued need for parents to get involved as trainers and coaches. The Juvenile club has now 124 active players which is a step up from 99 in 2012. Denis thanked Deidre Ryan for coordinating the sale of the club gear. Denis also welcomed the establishment of the Ladies Gaelic Football Club which will strengthen the club going forward. Treasurer Jackie Kennedy gave a very comprehensive Financial Report in which the club showed a small profit. All current officers were returned to their positions. Coaching and Games Development Officer Tom Hickey complemented the great involvement of parents with teams and stressed the need for more to get involved as the club grows in numbers. Tom also stressed the need for high tempo training and to a high standard must be continued and the balance between balancing skills and having players game ready while also allowing players to express themselves must be allowed to continue. There was then a debate on the grades at which our Under 14, 16 & Minors would participate in the coming year. The coaches for each age group were also appointed for 2016.
DUNAMAGGAN PARISH COMMUNITY DINNER DANCE: The Dunamaggan Community Dinner Dance will be held again in the Springhill Hotel on Saturday 30th January 2016 at 8.00 p.m. till late. Music is by the Marble City Sounds and Tickets cost €35. You are requested to please buy your tickets early so as to assist the organisers.
