A CLOTHING COLLECTION in aid of the Zambia Immersion Programme 2017 which is organised by Coláiste Eamann Rís, Callan takes place during the next week. Clothes may be dropped off at the school up to 9th March.

KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In the Leinster Juvenile 40 x 20 semi-finals in Boys U 16 Singles Eoin Brennan (Kells) defeated  Conor Mulhall (Laois); in the Girls U 17 Doubles Kym Ryan (Kells)/Margaret Foley (Windgap) defeated  Eimear Dunphy / Louise Walsh (Laois) and in the B U 17 Singles Conor Condon (Kells) was defeated by Padraig Delaney (Laois).


In the Leinster 40 x 20 Minor Doubles Conor Murphy (Kells)/Shane Dunne (Clogh) defeated Laurence Dunne/Ciaran Busher (Wexford); in the Intermediate Doubles Brendan Burke (Kells)/Ciaran Neary (Talbot’s Inch) defeated Ian Griffin/Adrian Benson (Dublin);


In the Open 40 x 20 Senior Singles Patrick Funchion (Kells) defeated Darragh Daly and Joe McCann (Mayo) but was defeated by C.J. Fitzpatrick (Limerick) in the quarter final.


The USA 3rd Level National Colleges Championships were held in Minnesota and in the Men’s Open Singles Peter Funchion (Kells), representing Tralee Institute of Technology, came through a strong field of Seamus Conneely, Terry McElvaney, Niall Bolton, Colin Corbett and in the Final he defeated Tyler Stoffel of USA. Congratulations and very well done to Peter Funchion on his achievement. His Club and County are very proud of the achievement.


KILMOGANNY BRIDGE CLUB: The results of Wednesday 2nd March were: 1st: Nellie O’Shea & Philip Brennan; 2nd: Tina Ronan Nellie Lahart; 3rd: Pascal Grace & Ellen Delahunty. Bridge commences at 8.00 p.m. each Wednesday. New members and visitors are always welcome. 


DRAMA CELEBRATING 100 YEARS AGO: The Shrughawadda Players, Kilmoganny will stage their play `The Risen People` by James Plunkett in St. Leonard’s School Hall, Dunamaggan for three nights 23rd, 24th and 25th March at 8.30 p.m. nightly as part of the 1916 commemoration weekend organised by The Pat Walsh Memorial Committee. Tickets are now on sale at usual Kilmoganny venues and also Tom McCormack’s Pub, Dunamaggan and The Shop in Kells. Tickets cost €10 each. For further information contact Jackie on 051 – 648001 or Alycia on 051 – 648118. This is a new venue for the Shrughawadda Players to stage a drama. Tickets should be purchased early for this drama as it takes place in just two weeks time.


 


PAT WALSH COMMITTEE MEETING REPORT: (1) The Chairperson, Ned Kirwan, expressed thanks to all who contributed Photographs for the exhibition. If anyone else has photographs which they would like exhibited contact should be made with Ned Kirwan. (2) If anyone has memorabilia which they would like exhibited then contact should be made with any committee member soon as exhibition space is limited. (3) It was decided that a clean-up of the village will take place prior to the Easter Weekend. (4) As the Parade will be much greater than in previous years there may be some parking restrictions on Easter Sunday. (5) The next meeting was fixed for Tuesday 15th March in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan at 8.00 p.m. At this meeting a detailed programme of events will be finalized.


 


WINDGAP CAMOGIE CLUB REGISTRATION will take place in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on Sunday next from 11.30 a.m. - 12.30 p.m.  


 


DUNNA DASH: On Sunday last 28th February on a lovely spring afternoon the Dunna Dash 5 km Family Fun Run in aid of St. Leonard’s National School took place. 251 entrants took to the start and completed the 5 km race. First runner home was Noel Murphy, Waterford in a new course record of 16 minutes 45seconds.  Adele Walsh was the first female to cross the line also in a new course record time of 19 minutes 51seconds. First juvenile male was local Jamie McLoughlin in 18minnutes 31seconds and first female juvenile was Caoimhe Fennelly in a time of 25minutes 51 seconds. This year the new novel prize for first Parent and Primary School child to cross the line together went to Barbara & Sean Rossiter. All juveniles who completed the course received a medal at the finish and to see the children’s happy faces as they crossed the line was worth everything. A huge thank you to all the volunteers on the day and race sponsors Johnston's Kilkenny and Ben Fogarty IFAC, Kilkenny without whom the race could not have been possible and to all who helped in anyway in making the race a success.


 


KILMOGANNY FOOTBALLER’S INTO LEAGUE FINAL: Well done to the Kilmoganny Senior footballers who have maintained their 100% success in this year’s league and qualified for the League Final by beating Railyard 1 - 8 to 0 - 5 in the League Semi-Final in Dunnamaggin on Sunday last. They now meet either Danesfort or Muckalee in the final. Well done to all involved and best of luck in the final.
