Dunnamaggan NS produce an Historic Kells Tour Guide

The local school in Dunnamaggan have just published a Tour Guide to Historic Kells. The guide was developed by 5th and 6th class as part of the school Junior Entrepreneur Programme. Members from 5th and 6th class developed business plans and presented them to local entrepreneurs from the locality in a Dragons Den type format. The successful project was then worked on by the class as a team.

The aim of the Tour Guide is to provide an information source for School Tours and other visitors that want to explore the Historic Sites in Kells. The students found that there was limited information available locally and that local schools in Kilkenny didn’t know about Kells Priory and wasn’t used known as a destination for School Tours and History Field Trips.

As part of their market research they spoke to the Kilkenny Tourist office and school principals who supported the project and encouraged them that there was indeed a market for these guides.

Locals in Kells and surrounding areas also will gain a lot form these guides at there is fascinating insight into the Motte and Bailey, Kells Priory, the Mills and the Historic Site at Kilree to name a few. The guide includes maps of the village and old photographs and sketches.

The guide is available to buy locally in the village locally in ‘Bobs Shop’ and the village pubs and is well priced at just €5. The guide will also be for sale at local events over the next few weekends.
