DUNAMAGGIN LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL NEWS: (1) Training has resumed at the Dunamaggin Hurling Club pitch for all juvenile age groups. This year the Club is catering for the following age groups: nursery (ages 4 and up), U 8, U 10, U 12, U 14 and U 16. U 12 and U 14 competitions have begun and the U 10s will be hosting a blitz in late April.


(2) New members from Dunnamaggin and surrounding areas are very welcome and no experience is necessary. Gaelic football is a great way for girls to be part of a team, keep fit and make new friends. (3) Gaelic4Mothers&Others training resumes on Tuesday 19th at 8.30 p.m. beginning with a 3 week boot-camp. It is open to women of all fitness levels and ability who are aged 18+ and who don’t play Gaelic Football competitively. No experience is necessary and all are welcome to join in at any time. There’s no expectation on anyone taking part to play a match. Contact Eléna on 087 7691174 if interested.


(4) Many thanks to all those who supported the joint raffle held by the LGFC and Dunnamaggin NS Parents Association during the 1916 Commemoration Weekend. The winners were as follows: 1. DKK Lotto: The winning numbers of 4th April were 3, 7, 24. There was no jackpot winner. The following won €30 each: Rachel McCormack, K, A & D Ryan, Tom Hickey, Mary Lahart and The Other Way. Next week’s jackpot will be €1,600. Bingo is in St. Eoghan’s Centre each Saturday night at 8.30p.m. The Jackpot is worth €280, the Pool no is worth €180 and Pete’s no is worth €290.


 


KILMOGANNY BRIDGE CLUB: The results of Wednesday 6th April were: 1st: Philip Brennan & Siobhan Donovan; 2nd: Paul Tomsett & David Sutton, 3rd: Pascal Grace & Ellen Delahunty. Bridge commences at 8.00 p.m. each Wednesday. New members and visitors are always welcome.


 


KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In the 40 x 20 Men’s Open Senior Doubles championships Brendan Burke (Kells) / Ciaran Neary (Talbot’s Inch) defeated C.J. Fitzpatrick/Evan Murphy (Limerick) but were defeated by Eoin Kennedy/Carl Browne (Dublin) in the quarter final.


In the 40 x 20 All Ireland semi-final of Intermediate Doubles Brendan Burke (Kells)/Ciaran Neary (Talbot’s Inch) defeated Shane Hedigan/Donnacha O’Dea (Cork).


The Kilkenny U 14/15 Team 6 of Michael Prendergast (Kells), Jamie Maher, Eamonn Brennan (Clogh), Jack Doyle, Pauric Foley, Eoin O’Brien, Robert Culleton (Windgap) and Jack Hanrahan (Galmoy) defeated Clare in the Semi Final and Down in the All Ireland Final.


The Kilkenny U 16/17 Team of Nick O’Shea (Kells), Michael Power (Kells), Eoin Regan (Clogh), Padraig O’Neill and Keeling O’Grady (Goresbridge) were defeated in the All Ireland semi-final by Cork. In the Alaska State, USA Open Singles Tournament Peter Funchion (Kells) defeated Alfredo Herrera (USA) in the final. Congratulations and very well done to all.


 


THREE IN A ROW ALL-IRELAND WINS: Dunamaggan’s Michael Cody along with Tullaroan’s Tommy Walsh won their third All-Ireland Colleges medal with St. Kieran’s College on Easter Monday on the field of play when they defeated Árd Scoil Rís, Limerick in the Final. Ballyhale’s Adrian Mullen also collected his third medal but missed playing in last year’s final due to injury. They now join Noel Maher, Ballycallan now living in Freshford, who was mid-field on the St. Kieran’s three-in-a-row team of 1988 – 1990. Victor Costello, Goodwinsgardens, Dunamaggan also won an All-Ireland with St. Kieran’s College this year.


 


  DUNAMAGGAN PARADE ON TV: Irish TV which broadcasts on channel 191 will be showing the Easter Parade and School Projects on 1916 on 29th April. They have shown extracts from the Drama ‘The Risen People’ staged by the Shrughawadda players during this past weekend.


 


HEAD/BEARD SHAVING: An Open Day in the grounds of St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly in Kilmoganny will be held on Sunday 1st May commencing g at 2.00 p.m. Activities will include, BBQ, Face Painting, Bouncy Castle, Teas/Coffee and many other attractions. The days entertainment will conclude with Head/Beard shaving in Dunphy’s Lounge at 9.00 p.m. Your support will be very much appreciated.
