Co Football Final

29 April 2016

The Kilmoganny Senior footballers contested the County final against Railyard on Saturday evening last in Nowlan Park. It was Railyard who started the game brightly and went into an early lead when a free in bounced off the post and was palmed into the goal. They followed this up with a good point. Kilmoganny to their credit stuck to their task and worked themselves back into the  game with a well taken goal from Ronan Coffey.Team captain, William Phelan leveled matters with a point from play. Railyard however were able to find the posts with great ease and slotted another two points. Then came a second goal from Ronan after a great ball in from Darren Fitzpatrick. Railyard then pointed again to send the sides in level at half time Kilmoganny 2-01 Railyard 1-04. Kilmoganny got the first score of the second half with a well taken effort from Ronan before Railyard responded. The game now seemed to be played mostly between the 21yard lines with neither side able to go forward and shot for the posts. David Herity pointed a free as we hit the midway point of the half but this was to be the last score for Kilmoganny. As the game headed for a finish it was Railyard who were creating more chances and despite hitting several wides did manage to score when it mattered most, two points in the last few minutes to retain their title. Kilmoganny 2-03 Railyard 1-08.
