FIRST FOR DUNAMAGGAN: For the first time a resident of Dunamaggan Parish was elected Chairperson of Kilkenny Co. Council when Matt Doran from Shrughawadda, Kilmoganny was the unanimous choice of the membership of Kilkenny Co. Council last Friday in County Hall Council Chambers. Matt is a member of Kilkenny Co. Council since his co-option in 2002 in succession to Liam Aylward and since then he has topped the pole in his electoral area even though this area has changed substantially in recent years. Among those in the public gallery for this special occasion were members of Matt’s family including his wife Caroline and daughters Rachael and Aimee and supporters from his area. In proposing Matt for the office ‘Chap’ Cleere pointed out that Matt is a very hard worker who does not seek publicity. It is hoped that Matt will find time during the current year to maintain his active involvement in many local activities.
