MOWERS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT in Dunamaggan is now just over 3 weeks away. At its recent meeting, last Friday, it was stated that this is A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR PEOPLE TO BE ACTIVE PARTICIPENTS IN A WORKD RECORD.      Thanks was expressed to all the local land owners who are providing parking on their land for the event and to Ned & Shane Kirwan for providing the site for the event. It is expected that about 150 volunteers will be required for the event. The Husqvarna sponsored event is an opportunity for Dunamaggan to show the world that a small rural village can successfully organise an event which sets a world record.


 


CEMETERY MASSES IN DUNAMAGGAN PARISH will be celebrated in Kilmoganny Cemetery on Friday 8th July, in Kilree Cemetery on Wednesday 13th July and in Dunamaggan Cemetery on Friday 15th July. Each celebration will take place at 8.00 p.m.. Mass for those buried in the Village cemetery in Kilmoganny will be the Sunday morning mass at 9.30 a.m. on July 10th.


 


THE ANNUAL CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION took place in Dunamaggan after 11.00 a.m. mass on Sunday last. The children who received their First Holy Communion this May formed a special section of the procession.


 


THE ANNUAL KILKENNY VHI Cúl Camps are being held in nine venues regionally in Kilkenny city and county throughout the month of July. The camps are structured so that all skills of the games are covered in and fun and enjoyable environment, with fully qualified GAA Coaches willing to pass on their knowledge and enthusiasm. Some of the Kilkenny Senior Inter-county Hurlers will drop in to give their own special tips during the week. The Kilkenny VHI GAA Cúl Camps run from Monday to Friday from 10.00a.m. to 2.30p.m. for 6-13 year old Primary School going children. Children are asked to bring their own Hurling /Gaelic Football gear and packed lunch. SOUTH KILKENNY HISTORICAL SOCIETY Coach Trip to the ecclesiastical sites at Clonmacnoise and Clonfert, which is celebrating 900 years as a diocese in 2011, on Saturday, July 9th. Departing the Rising Sun, Mullinavat at 7.00 a.m. . The Cost is €22, including admission to Clonmacnoise visitors centre. Booking and further information from Eddie Synnott at 086 -8124349. THE WEDDING of Edel O’Shea, daughter of Margaret and the late John O’Shea, Ballintee and John Rohan, Mullinavat was celebrated in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan on Saturday 18th June. The main celebrant was Rev. Patrick Comerford, Uncle of the bride, with con-celebrants Revs. Nicholas Flavin P.P., Leonard Forristal and Fergus O’Fearghaill. The bridesmaids were Rosie Bissett, Claire O’Sullivan and Renee Barnes. The best man was Patrick Rohan with Jimmy Rohan and Willie O’Toole as groomsmen. Meaghann O’Mahony was flower girl with Philip O’Mahony, Ronan O’Mahony and Seamus Rohan as page boys. The prayers of the faithful and the readings were read by members of the families with both mothers presenting the offertory gifts.


 


KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In the Hal Clarke Tournament 2011 Anthony Martin (Kells) defeated Martin Lalor (Talbot’s Inch) in the final in Kilfane on the 18th June. Martin had defeated Ger McGrath (Kells) in the semi final in the tie break the week previous. This had made the favourite
going into the final. From the word go Anthony settled well into the game and a strong lob serve had his opponent in trouble from an early stage. Strong kills and passing shots from Anthony saw him win out the match 21-12, 21-11 in front of a big crowd. Well done to Anthony and the very best of luck to him in the Leinster Junior B in the coming weeks.
The Mount Talbot One Wall Competition was held from the 17-19th June. Three Kells players representing Kilkenny took part. Dan Breen, Ger McGrath and Alan Funchion made the 3 hour journey to the Mattie McDonagh sports centre in Ballygar. Dan and Ger made it through to their respective C and B plate finals on the Sunday morning while Alan only marginally lost his game in the plate on Saturday in his first time ever playing competitive one wall. Ger was first on court Sunday morning and completely destroyed his opponent Robert Coyle 27-2 to win the Men’s B plate. Dan was in action at 11.00 a.m. against Morgan Duggan and blew him out of the water winning 22-4 thus winning the Men’s C plate. Both will be taking part in the Irish One Wall Nationals in Breaffy House in Catlebar in two weeks time and are wished the very best of luck.


A TABLE QUIZ in aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation 500Km Cycle Challenge from Geneva to Nice from 24th - 30th July will take place in Shirley’s Kells on this Saturday 25th June at 9.00 p.m. Martin O’Neill is taking part in the challenge. 086 0 3944224. Fun, Prizes and Raffle on the night.
