KELLS’ SCOUTS JAMBOREE IN ESSEX: The following is a young scout’s account of the Jamboree. It's been several years since I first joined Scouts and in that time I have been on many adventures. Yet in all that time I never had an experienced quite like the Essex international Jamboree. On the 28th July our group 18 scouts and 4 leader's) left Kells on an overnight trip to Essex. We arrived a day before the official opening of the Jamboree, giving us time rest. The Jamboree began with an opening ceremony in the evening which took place on the centre stage. This was the beginning of a week of activities ranging from stunt jumps and abseiling to shooting and quad biking. At night we were given free range of the Jamboree, having the option to attend any of the night time activities available to us. My favourite night time activity would have to be the Academy of Dance or as it soon became known The Rave Tent. All too soon our time was nearing an end and to bring the Jamboree to a close we attended the closing ceremony. This ceremony saw two do battle for the crowd’s approval. With the ceremony over we had just enough time to say goodbye to the new friends we made before we went to bed. The next day we began our long journey home to Ireland. For me, Scouts is more than just a hobby, it's a lifestyle, it's an adventure, it’s a family. While we may not always get along we always have each other's back. It's made me who I am today and for that I will always be thankful. Besides, what's life without adventure? Timothy O’Shea (Pho0tograph of the group is included)

MINOR HURLERS SUCCESS: The Dunnamaggin Minor hurlers took on league leaders Castlecomer in Dunnamaggin in their league on Sunday evening last. Morgan Thomas (2) and Nicky O’Shea traded points with their opponents in the opening minutes before Victor Costello pointed from play to nudge Dunnamaggin in front by two. Then came a great period for Dunnamaggin. Dara Keane made a great run forward before passing to Roy Cullen who put the ball past the advancing keeper. Victor Costello added a point. Eddie Dunne got in on the action with a point after great work from Victor Costello and Roy Cullen in the lead up. Morgan Thomas continued his accuracy with the placed ball before Comer responded with a point. Roy Cullen quickly cancelled this out with another goal after great build up play by the forwards. Morgan Thomas added another point from a free before Comer got another point on the scoreboard from play. Comer followed this up with a well taken goal. However the Dunnamaggin lads were not going to let them have the last score of the half and after an excellent sniping run from Dara Keane he gave an excellent hand pass to Roy Cullen who easily completed his hat trick. Half time score: Dunnamaggin 3 - 08 Castlecomer 1 - 04
Comer playing now with a slight breeze opened the second half with a good point but that was to be their last score for 15 mins as the Dunnamaggin backs started to really impose themselves on the game being led by Ian Walsh at centre back flanked by Alex Moore and Brian Farrell. Harry Walsh continued to give a very assured display in goal and with the length of his puck outs. Morgan Thomas added two more frees before Victor Costello added two points from play one of which was a cracking score from long range. Castlecomer did add further points but the Dunnamaggin lads were showing a greater hunger and Team play in all areas of the pitch to run out winners. Full time score: Dunnamaggin 3 - 14 Castlecomer 1 - 10
