MINOR HURLERS QUALIFY FOR SEMI-FINAL: The Dunnamaggin Minor hurlers contested their championship quarter final against Slieverue in Slieverue on Saturday evening last. Dunnamaggin were quickest off the mark with opening points from play from Victor Costello and Eddie Dunne. Slieverue responded with a well taken free. Dunnamaggin settled again and went on a scoring spree for the next 15 minutes. Roy Cullen was first to score, a goal that was made for him by Dara Keane who ran down the left hand side line before dispatching it to Roy who made no mistake. Robbie McCauley then added a free before on the 12th min Dara Keane again turned his marker raced down the left hand wing, cut in towards the large rectangle and blasted the ball to the right hand side inside netting. Victor Costello and Robbie McCauley added further good points from play to put it Dunnamaggin 2:05 Slieverue 0:01. Then on the 17th min came Dunnamaggin‘s third goal. A ball won by Ian Walsh from a puck out was perfectly delivered to Dara Keane who picked out Roy Cullen again and he finished it off to the net. Slieverue responded with a good point but Luke Fitzpatrick who was excellent throughout pointed in return. Slieverue finished the half very strongly scoring five points to Dunnamaggin’s one, a free from Robbie McCauley. Half time score was: Dunnamaggin 3:07 Slieverue 0:07. Dunnamaggin opened the second half with great intent and Luke Fitzpatrick won and converted a good ball in the opening minute. Then came Dunnamaggin’s fourth goal and Roy Cullen’s third as the one two combination for Dara Keane to Roy proved again unstoppable. Slieverue did get a goal back from a 21 yard free, but the Dunnamaggin half back line were not about to let any revival happen with Jack Crehan, Ian Walsh and Brian Farrell commanding their positions. Then came the score of the game when the ever solid Darragh O’Keeffe won a ball in corner back and went on a blistering run up the side line, hand passed it to Robbie McCauley who hand passed it back to Darragh once he had slipped his marker and he duly cracked it over the bar from the side-line. The score was now Dunnamaggin 4:09 Slieverue 1:08 with 10 minutes of the second half gone. The remainder of the game was a tit for tat affair with both sides trading points with Dunnamaggin adding further points through Victor Costello and Robbie McCauley (3). Slieverue did manage a further goal when the ball in got a deflection to elude Dunnamaggin keeper Harry Walsh, who was excellent throughout. The final score was: Dunnamaggin 4:13 Slieverue 2:10.
