WOELD RECORD SET IN DUNAMAGGAN. The world record for the most ride-on lawn mowers cutting grass simultaneously in the same place for at least one minute was set at 696 mowers in Dunamaggan last Sunday. Thus the small south Kilkenny Village has now established a world record. The organisers, Dunamaggan G.A.A. Club expressed their thanks to all who participated in the event and to all their sponsors especially the main sponsor Husqvarna. The proceeds of the event will support the Camphill Community in Ballytobin in Dunamaggan parish and Dunamaggan G.A.A. Club which is in the process of developing facilities in Kilmoganny to cater for the ever increasing needs of club members in the parish.

On a day when rain fell in parts of central and south Kilkenny the Dunamaggan area experiences nothing more than a very light drizzle and then a warm and sunny afternoon. The setting on the land of Ned & Shane Kirwan was ideal for the venture. The stewarding of the event was first class and when Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan released the flare to start the event the 696 mowers immediately moved. When the record was achieved the mowers completed a parade lap of the venue. There were many events to cater for the need of those present during the day.

The proceedings began with an U 9 hurling blitz involving 10 teams. The concluding match was between Dicksboro and Dunamaggan with the city team winning narrowly.

There were lots of prizes on the day. The top prize which was confined to clubs who entered 10 or multiple of ten mowers in the name of the club was the Carrickshock G.A.A.
