MOWERS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT in Dunamaggan is now just over 2 weeks away. The Husqvarna sponsored event is an opportunity for Dunamaggan to show the world that a small rural village can successfully organise an event which sets a world record. Entries for the event are being processed at present and a display of the number of entries received to date is in a very prominent position at the G.A.A. grounds. It now registers over 200 entries and the organising committee expects this number to grow very substantially in the coming weeks. There are numerous prizes for participants with the first prize for participants a Husqvarna mower worth €3,000 and a field mower as a prize confined to clubs who enter 10 mowers. This mower is worth €6,000. Numerous trade stands and family fun events will be there for the day. It is expected that the day will begin with an underage hurling blitz between a number of club teams. Details are available from 086 – 7847002 or from www.rideonmowerworldrecordattempt.com. The event takes place on Sunday July 24th. The event is in aid of the Camphill Community in Ballytobin and Dunamaggan G.A.A. Club Development. This is an opportunity for anyone with a ride on lawnmower to be part of a world record and to receive a certificate stating so. Each entry will receive a 20% discount from a Husqvarna agent at their next service and also two complementary entry tickets. Thus most of the €50 entry cost can be recovered.

Phil Brennan, a former chairman of the Kilkenny Library Committee, outlined the funding of the mobile library and its expansion in the 1980’s. The outgoing Chairperson of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr. Catherine Connery was present as was local Councillor Matt Doran. The two hour programme involved several interviews of local personalities and representatives of groups active in the community including residents from St. Joseph’s Supported Care Home for the Elderly in Kilmoganny and members of the Shrughawadda Players.
