U14 Quarter final Vs Erins Own 7th Sept 2016
Our U14 hurlers played the quarter final of their championship against Erins Own in a misty Palmerstown on Wednesday night last. Dunnamaggin got off to a great start with two good points from Denis Walsh. Comer however had a scoring threat of their own and quickly replied with three consecutive points. This however would be their only score for the remainder of the half. Dunnamaggin through some great work in the midfield by Andy Hickey and Darragh Walsh were setting the platform for Denis and Aidan O’Neill to add further scores as the half drew to a close. Comer did press and press but some heroic marking and defensive play anchored by Dylan Carroll, Shaun O’Keeffe and Joe Fitzpatrick put enough pressure on their opponents to stop any further scores. Half time Dunnamaggin 0:07 Erins Own 0:03
Dunnamaggin got the perfect start again in the second half when Oisin McDermott made no mistake when he rattled the net on the club house end of the grounds. This, as is often the case seemed to injected a real sense of attack into the Comer lads and they applied serious pressure on our defence which eventually yielded them a goal and a point. However then came the score of the game when Darragh made some excellent ground in from midfield, passed it to the on rushing Conor Denny who, seeing he was going to be caught passed it to the unmarked Aidan O’Neill- Back of the net! 8 mins gone Dunnamaggin 2:07 Comer 1:04. Comer pressed again and forced a cracking point blank save from Dunnamaggin keeper Ruairai Holden who then had to be alert to the second shot, which was also snuffed out. This gave the Dunna lads great confidence. Andy then put over a very good point from long range which was followed up by a goal from Denis Walsh, a shot which was lobbed in and somehow evaded the keeper into the side netting. Oisin added another goal as we headed in to the last few mins. Erins Own did press again and Ruairi did have to be alert on the line but Andy had the last say when he pointed from play. Dunnamaggin 4:09 Erins Own 1:04. Dunnamaggin now advance to play James Stephens on Sunday 18th Sept @ 11 Venue TBC
